Radnor Middle School Recognized Nationally For Environmental Efforts
School to be featured on U.S. Department of Education "Green Strides" tour Tuesday.

The U.S. Department of Education has selected Radnor Middle School as one of 11 Pennsylvania schools to be featured on its Green Strides tour due to the school's commitment to being environmentally friendly.
"All community members are invited to explore RMS, which earned a Green Ribbon School designation in 2012, on Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 2:45-3:45 p.m," the school says on its website.
According tot he school's website, The 2016 tour theme is "Real-World Learning" and will "demonstrate how schools that teach effective environmental education through authentic learning help students learn higher-order thinking skills, collaboration and problem-solving, which prepares them for careers of the future in addition to encouraging them to make positive contributions to their communities and planet."

According tot the Department of Education schools earn the Green Ribbon School designation through reducing environmental impact and costs, improved health and wellness, and effective environmental and sustainability education.
"Visitors will learn about the school's many environmentally friendly features as well as how students are taught about sustainability in a way that empowers them to take action," the school's website says. "Past tour attendees have included federal, state and local agency officials and elected officers, such as governors, state legislators, mayors and city council members."

Some of the highlights of Radnor Middle School's environmental efforts include the installation of low flow faucets and waterless urinals; recycling 80 percent of waste from the school's construction; and sensors that turn lights off automatically when rooms are empty.
The Green Strides Tour will stop at several other area schools including:
- Albert M. Greenfield Elementary School, 2200 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, 500 W. Willow Grove Ave., Philadelphia 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
- Harriton High School, 600 N. Ithan Ave., Bryn Mawr, 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Wednesday, September 28
- Charles F. Patton Middle School, 760 Unionville Rd., Kennett Square, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Tour of Westtown School, 975 Westtown Rd., West Chester, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- School District of Jenkintown, 325 Highland Ave., Jenkintown, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Goodnoe Elementary, 298 Frost Lane, Newtown, 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Thursday, September 29
- Broughal Middle School, 114 W. Morton St., Bethlehem, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Nazareth Area Middle School, 94 Friedenstahl Ave., Nazareth, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
- Northampton Community College, Monroe Campus, 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
