Radnor Middle School Wins 3rd Straight Delco MATHCOUNTS Contest

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA – It's officially a dynasty now that Radnor Middle School's matheltes have won their third straight Delaware County MATHCOUNTS competition and earned a trip to the state competition.

Students from 10 schools in Delaware County took part in the regional contest at Radnor Middle School on Feb. 24, and four RMS team members finished in the top 10 during the individual competition, the Radnor Township School District said.

Cailyn Lee placed fourth, Ben Zhao placed fifth, Lauren Yoo placed seventh, and Skyler Le placed 10th, the district said.

The four members that captured the team award are team captain Le, Yoo, Zhao and Kensei Yasue.

The remaining members of the RMS MATHCOUNTS team are Jackson Carey, Jingyuan Chen, Leon Chen, Theodore He, Nathaniel Jean, Sungwoo Oh and Kyle Wang, according to the district.

The team will head to Harrisburg on March 24 to compete in the state round of MATHCOUNTS competition.

Should the mathletes continue to give strong performances, they could earn a spot in the Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition which will be held in May.

The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is a national middle school mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging "bee" style contests.

The Competition Series has four levels of competition - school, chapter, state and national.

Each level is comprised of four rounds: Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown.

The four top-scoring individuals and the top team coach advance to the Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition in May.
