Radnor School District Holds 6th Multicultural Potluck Dinner

Students got to experience other cultures through food and performances.

The Multicultural Committee of the Radnor Middle School parent-teacher organization hosted the 6th Annual Districtwide "Around the World" Potluck Dinner and Entertainment Evening on Nov. 4 in the RMS cafeteria. A celebration of diversity and culture, all district families were invited to experience the tastes and sounds of various cultures provided by district students and parents.

Student performances included: a Swedish Lucia song performed by Radnor Elementary School 2nd-grader Lisa Strak; a German Christmas song performed by RES 4th-grader Florian Strak; the "Chinese Tea Dance" from The Nutcracker danced by Radnor Middle School 8th-grader Ellie Morrissey and 7th-grader Samantha Roche; Bharatnatyam (Classical Indian Dance) performed by RMS students Anya Chan, Anya Jayanti and Anika Jaswal; a Scottish Highland dance performed by RMS 8th-graders Florence and Grace South; a song by RES 4th-grader Daisy Madden and RMS 7th-grader Minnie Madden; and a sing-along in French, German and Spanish led by RMS World Language students.

Potluck Group
Radnor Middle School 8th-grader Ellie Morrissey, Multicultural Committee co-chair Aimee Polaha, Radnor Middle School 7th-grader Samantha Roche, and Multicultural Committee co-chair Esther Choi. Ellie and Samantha performed the "Chinese Tea Dance" from The Nutcracker for attendees during the event.

Other presentations and activities included: a Chinese calligraphy demonstration led by Dr. Robert Hsu; an Australian Digeridoo presentation and performance by Frank May Jr.; an Indian magic show performed by Shreeyash Palshikar, PhD; international games such as chess, Chinese Checkers and Korean Yootnori; Origami; and more.

The goal of the Multicultural Committee is to raise awareness, educate, and encourage understanding of the cultural diversity within our district and its surrounding community. The RMS Multicultural Committee works hand-in-hand with the Diversity Committee, English Language Learning and World Language Departments to achieve this goal.
