Radnor Schools Get $35K For Teacher STEM Training

RADNOR, PA — The Radnor Township School District was recently awarded a sizeable grant from the state's PAsmart initiative — the largest grant available from the PAsmart Targeted grants program.

According to the district, a $35,000 PAsmart Targeted PreK-12 grant was awarded to the district.

The majority of the grant will be used to provide intensive training for a segment of RTSD elementary teachers that will earn an Integrative Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) endorsement.

Additionally, some grant funds will also be used for administrative training focused on neuroscience and pedagogical research.

"PAsmart is strategically investing in science and technology education so students get the skills they need for emerging jobs in high demand," Governor Tom Wolf said when announcing the $20 million in grants available this year.

In total, $40 million was allocated to the PAsmart initiative.

The Department of Education is awarding $20 million for STEM and Computer Science (CS) education through PAsmart Targeted Pre-K-12 grants and Advancing grants.

Applications will also be accepted by the Department of Labor for $10 million for apprenticeships and industry partnerships. Funding for career and technical education also increased by $10 million.

"Through PAsmart, we are developing the most prepared and talented workforce in the country," Wolf said.

"Pennsylvania is a national leader for offering innovative computer science and STEM learning, which is critical to ensuring that students are college, career, and community ready when they graduate," said Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera. "PAsmart Targeted and Advancing grants help train educators to provide high-quality STEM and CS experiences in their classrooms."
