Radnor Schools Seek Input On New Start, End Times

The recommended new start times would give high schoolers an extra hour in the morning before school.

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA — The Radnor Township School District is eyeing implementing new start and end times for its schools and is asking for the public's input.

As district staff, parents, students, and School Board members consider a change to the start and end times for each district school — as recently recommended by the district’s Sleep and School Start Time Committee — all Radnor Township residents are invited to two community feedback sessions to hear more about the recommendation and share their thoughts.

The community can weigh in on the start and end times at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 8 in the Radnor Middle School auditorium and at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9 in the Radnor High School Black Box Theatre.

The RTSD Sleep and School Start Time Committee offered its final school schedule recommendation at the district’s March 26 School Board meeting.

The committee recommended the following:

  • Radnor High School — 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. (currently 7:35 a.m. to 2:27 p.m.)
  • Radnor Middle School — 7:50 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. (currently 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
  • Elementary Schools — 9:07 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. (currently 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)

The final recommendation follows the committee’s initial recommendation offered at the November 13, 2018 School Board Curriculum Committee meeting.

Significant progress was made in refining the recommendation since the November 2018 meeting due to additional research and extensive feedback from various individuals and groups, including parents, students and staff members.

The final recommended schedule was selected from five schedules developed after the initial recommendation was offered.
