Radnor Students Heading To National History Day Finals
Brendan Hung and Jesse Conen will represent Radnor Middle School and Pennsylvania at the 2017 National History Day finals in June.
WAYNE, PA – Two Radnor Middle School students will be representing Radnor and Pennsylvania in a national history competition in June after earning top honors in the state contest earlier this month.
According to Radnor Township School District, eighth graders Brendan Hung and Jesse Conen head to University of Maryland, College Park in mid June for the 2017 National History Day competition finals.
The students advanced to the finals after placing first in the Junior Individual Exhibit category at the state competition on May 12 and 13 at Carlisle High School, the district said.

Hung's exhibit, "Mary Beth Tinker: The Voice Behind Student Free Speech," took first place while Conen finished second in the state with his exhibit, "Ruby Bridges: Taking a Stand for All Students."
This year's projects centered around the annual theme "Taking a Stand in History," the district said.

Thirty-nine Radnor Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade students competed at the regional National History Day competition at Chester County Historical Society in March 12 RMS students competed at the state competition in May.
All of the RMS competitors are currently enrolled in Mary Canniff, Jay Echternach, Jeff McQuaid or Emily Morikawa's social studies classes.
National History Day is a year-long educational program that engages students in grades six through 12 in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics, the district said.
Students produce dramatic performances, imaginative exhibits, multimedia documentaries, websites and research papers based on research related to an annual theme, according to the district.
These projects are then evaluated at local, state, and national competitions, the district said.
