RHS Student Newspaper Wins 2 Student Keystone Press Awards

WAYNE, PA — Radnor High School's student journalists have some bragging rights, as the paper took home two journalism awards recently.

"Radnorite" won two awards in the 2019 Student Keystone Press Awards.

Junior Ava Blumer earned first place in the Feature Photo category and junior Will Dawson earned 2nd place for a Feature Story.

Ava was recognized for "High School Bonfire," a photo of the school's annual celebration held before the football team's matchup with long-standing rival Lower Merion. It was featured in the Radnorite's coverage of the school's annual Lower Merion "LM" Week.

Will's award is for Lobby404: Inside Radnor's Internet Rulerz, a story on the Radnor High School rap group who, in the span of just one year, successfully made the transition from school-sponsored open mic night to paid gigs in Philadelphia.

"We at the Radnorite strive to generate community through publishing work of interest to the local youth culture," the paper says on its website. "We value keeping current in the marketplace, pushing on the boundaries of traditional journalism and exploring unique mechanisms of promoting and distributing our work–always with an eye to inform, engage, and challenge our readers."

The Student Keystone Press Awards recognize high school and college journalism that provides relevance, integrity and initiative in serving readers.

Winners were notified in mid-February and will be honored at the Student Keystone Press Awards Luncheon during the America East News Media Business and Technology Summit, on April 3 in Hershey, PA.

A plaque will be awarded to each winner for first place, and certificates for second place and honorable mention.
