Join The Savoy Company in celebrating our 125th anniversary year with Gilbert &amp; Sullivan’s uplifting operetta,&nbsp;The Gondoliers!&nbsp;in the Open Air Theatre at Longwood Gardens. Set in Venice and the fictional kingdom of Barataria, the plot centers on two gondoliers, Marco and Giuseppe, who discover that one of them is the rightful king but cannot determine which. They agree to rule jointly until the true monarch can be identified, allowing Gilbert to satirize monarchy, aristocracy, and British political institutions. The show is especially noted for its unusually warm tone and emphasis on equality, reflecting contemporary late-Victorian debates about class and governance.
Through its witty dialogue, lively ensemble numbers, and playful mockery of aristocracy and political systems, the operetta celebrates equality while poking fun at rigid class distinctions and the pretensions of monarchy.
Premiered in 1889, The Gondoliers is the twelfth collaboration between librettist W.S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan. The show ran for 554 performances, making it one of the duo’s most successful later works.
Introducing Stage Director Grant Mech and Choreographer Rebecca Malcolm-Naib, whose inventive vision brings The Gondoliers to life in a masterful comedy that sparkles under the outstanding baton of Music Director Peter Hilliard and a superb professional orchestra. Produced by William Kader, the production is enhanced by a striking, professionally designed set and delightfully charming costumes.

The Savoy Company presents Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Gondoliers!"

David Rozek is a former nationally ranked junior and Division I collegiate tennis player with more than 10 years of teaching experience working with both juniors and adults of all levels. Originally from West Chester, PA and then Cleveland, OH, David competed at the highest levels of USTA junior tennis out of the Midwest Section, earning top 100 national ranking in both Boys 16's and 18's and a national doubles ranking of #19. He placed third in the Ohio High School State Tournament and was recruited by several top collegiate programs before choosing to play for North Carolina State University in the ACC.
At NC State, David helped lead the Wolfpack to the Elite Eight in the 2007 NCAA Tournament while earning a Bachelor of Architecture. A left-handed serve-and-volley player known for his strategic style of play, David later taught at private clubs in North Carolina and Connecticut before transitioning into entrepreneurship and pursuing&nbsp; product design. Now based in Wayne, Pennsylvania, he enjoys returning to the court to help players of all ages and ability levels improve their technique, confidence, and athleticism.David’s coaching style is both highly technical and deeply cerebral. He emphasizes proper form, stroke mechanics, and fundamentals, while also teaching players to understand the strategy and decision-making that make tennis feel like a complex game of chess. Beyond on-court development, David can help guide young players through the demands of high-level junior tennis and the college recruitment process.Private lessons are available for players ages 8 and up, from beginners to advanced juniors and adults. David will work with you to arrange a convenient local court for each session. Introductory first lesson: $50. Ongoing private lessons: $100 per session. When we need more, how to help others at the same time“Giving freely of ourselves and what we all gain,” a talk by practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker, Melanie Wahlberg. The talk will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible, especially in Christ Jesus’ life and teachings, showing how they are available for anyone to understand and experience through the lens of Christian Science. The talk is free, open to the community, and sponsored by First Church of Christ, Scientist, 81 Cassatt Avenue, Berwyn, PA 19312




“When we feel overwhelmed by life’s problems, we may want to try to get more from the world,” says Ms. Wahlberg. “But when we do the opposite–give more of ourselves or focus on the God-given qualities we already have to express or contribute, we find that we end up not lacking anything. Really, we gain the unexpected good of joy, health, and strength that move our lives and the world forward.”

Sharing examples of healing from her own life and professional practice of Christian Science, Ms. Wahlberg will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy.

Ms. Wahlberg will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy, and how she came to understand, confirm, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand, “He that believes on me, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible).

For over 150 years, people around the world have worked to follow Christ Jesus in this practice of Christianity and continue to do so today, with healings of physical ills and personal difficulties.
