The shooting happened around 8:20 p.m. in the Wawa on the first block of Sugartown Road, Radnor Police said. Eyewitnesses told Action News the man clearly targeted the woman, who sources said was in her 20s. He then reportedly shot her with a rifle in front of customers before fleeing in a black BMW.

Authorities, including a SWAT team and Pennsylvania State Police, later located the man late Thursday in Thornbury Park in Glen Mills, NBC10 reported. The park is about 15 miles away from the Wawa where the shooting occurred.

During a news conference, Radnor Township Police Superintendent Christopher Flanagan said video from the scene shows the weapon to appear to be an AR-15 rifle. He said authorities can't yet confirm the model, but "it was absolutely a rifle."

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Authorities have not yet indicated a motive for the crime, or what led to the shooting.

Radnor Township Commissioner Sean Farhy, in a social media post, addressed the shooting that kept residents on edge for several hours Thursday.

"I have been quickly briefed by the Township Manager about a disturbing loss of life event that has taken place at the Wawa and the subsequent police activity that has followed near the corner of Morris & Sugartown Roads in Wayne," he said. "In the event that you have to head out that way, you are asked to avoid the area."
