Benedict Cumberbatch narrates show featuring high resolution state of the art digital projectors
Show Dates: October 23rd, 24th, 30th, 31st, November 6th, 7th
The Julia Fowler Planetarium at Eastern University presents the full-dome Solar Superstorms program in McInnis Hall, 1300 Eagle Road, St. Davids, PA. Show times are 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. each night. Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, Solar Superstorms is a major new production that takes viewers into the tangle of magnetic fields and superhot plasma that vent the Sun’s rage in dramatic flares, violent solar tornadoes, and the largest eruptions in the solar system: Coronal Mass Ejections.
The show features one of the most intensive efforts ever made to visualize the inner workings of the sun, including a series of groundbreaking scientific visualizations computed on the giant new supercomputing initiative, Blue Waters, based at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), University of Illinois.
The Julia Fowler Planetarium was updated in June 2015 with bright, high resolution state of the art digital projectors which give the system the highest quality image of a planetarium in a 20-foot diameter dome in the world.
