The Suburban Building

Today's Snapshot is of a century-old building that has housed a newspaper and, long ago, a jail, people say.

Today's Snapshot has a special place in my heart. I was the last person to occupy the Suburban building before it was sold at the end of 2010. I worked there for one year essentially by myself—the lone person in that four-story,10,000+ square-foot building. (Although there were always tales about ghosts I did not see any.)

The building had not been upgraded for decades. But new owners have gutted it and are redeveloping it into office and retail space. They are hoping to have the first tenant, Little Nest Portraits, in by the fall.

Many people have come in and out of that building over the years, dropping off text or photos to the Suburban and Wayne Times, which was in circulation for more than 100 years. I was given the chance last week to see how the renovations are progressing.
