Three Villanova Football Players Named To 2016 FCS Football All-American Team

A defensive lineman, linebacker, and safety all earned the honors. Find out who here.

Three Villanova football players were named to the 2016 FCS Football All-American Team. All three players were named first team All-Americans.

The college said Hero Sports announced the selections recently, and put senior linebacker Austin Calitro, senior defensive lineman Tanoh Kpassagnon, and junior safety Rob Rolle on the first team.

Calitro helped anchor a Villanova defense that led all of FCS football in both total defense (259.8 ypg) and scoring defense (15.0 ppg.), and ranked fourth in rushing defense at 87.6 yards per game. In 13 games, Calitro tied for the team lead in total tackles with 86 and he ranked second on the Wildcat team in tackles for loss with 12. He also had four pass break-ups and 3.5 quarterback sacks.

In 13 games this past season, Kpassagnon led the CAA and ranked in the top15 in both quarterback sacks (11) and tackles for loss (21.5). He also tallied 45 total tackles, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and a blocked kick. He finished the season with at least one sack in nine of the 13 games. Kpassagnon was the 2016 CAA Defensive Player of the Year.

Rolle was a standout in the secondary for Villanova in 2016 finishing with 63 tackles, a team-high seven interceptions, five pass break-ups and a fumble recovery. He scored two defensive touchdowns, including a three-yard fumble return versus Pitt and a 100-yard interception return against Towson. His seven interceptions ranked him tied for first in all of FCS Football.
