October 1, 2021

You may have seen the Radnor Township Public Works crews working hard to visit and clear out every culvert and storm water inlet around town this week. Here in Radnor, we prioritize drainage system maintenance and these cleaning efforts are a very important part of our maintenance program. While responding to storm water emergencies during weather events is critical,  maintaining clean inlets is an important mitigation effort. Thanks to the Public Works crews, Township inlets (on both local and state-owned roads) are now cleared.

According to Director of Public Works, Ricky Foster, Jr., the cleaning format starts with areas that flood more and works towards areas that are less compromised. "We start with inlets in areas with prominent flooding. Specifically, we start with state-owned roads, move onto secondary roads and finish with side streets," said Foster. "This method helps us cover the entire Township in an orderly fashion similar to our approach to snow removal. And, cleaning inlets gives us the opportunity to inspect the inlets should there be need for repairs."

And, YOU CAN HELP. Please do not sweep, rake, or blow leaves and other yard waste into the street. If you see debris blocking an inlet and it is safe, please help clear the inlet. If there is a clogged drain that is difficult to clear, please contact the Public Works Office at 610.688.5600 x 195.

Many thanks to our Public Works Department for using fair weather days as an opportunity to clear storm water inlets and perform drainage system maintenance. Because of their efforts, we are better prepared for a rainy day!
