Troop 284 Takes First Place in District First Aid Meet!

The Cradle of Liberty Council Constellation District's annual First Aid Meet was held Saturday, March 1, 2014.  Boy Scout Troops from the all over the Main Line sent 19 of their best patrols to compete.  The competition consists of about 20 scenarios presented to the patrols by adult judges.  The individual patrols were to show proficiency in First Aid treatment and procedure for each scenario.  Points were awarded based on expertise.

This year, after several hours of testing, Radnor Troop 284's Cobra Patrol won first place honors!  Cobra Patrol is lead by Jack Doughan and includes: Jack Palmer, Porter Durham, John Lightcap, Chris Stein, and Alex Bowden.  The Cobra Patrol will have the honor of their name engraved on the trophy dating back to 1961.

Honorable mentions were awarded for 4th place to 284's Hornet Patrol lead by Matt Palmer, and 5th place to 284's Eagle Patrol lead by Taylor Rish.

Congratulations to Cobra Patrol and all of Troop 284's scouts for a job exceptionally done.

It is a long standing tradition that Troop 284 places emphasis on training the scouts the skills needed for First Aid Merit Badge.  This training culminates in the District First Aid Meet.  The troop takes very seriously the First Aid training of the scouts as an integral part of the Boy Scout Motto "Be Prepared".  Troop 284 takes all scouts on a two week high adventure camping trip each year and this training puts the troop in the best possible position to deal with any emergencies that may occur within the troop or to others the troop may come in contact with.

This year Troop 284 will be spending two weeks on Lake George in NY.  The sites the troop has used every 3-5 years since 1969 are accessible only by boat.  The scouts have the opportunity to work on their outdoor skills while enjoying the beauty of the Lake George Region.
