Car Thief Strikes In Radnor Thursday

A quick-acting homeowner thwarted an attempt to steal a Mercedes Benz but a Jeep was stolen the same night at a different location.

Radnor Police are reporting a vehicle was stolen early Thursday morning and are also reporting an attempted vehicle theft that happened earlier that night.

According to police, a black, four-door 2014 Jeep Wrangler was stolen from an unlocked, detached garage Thursday morning.

Police said the vehicle was stolen from a residence on the unit block of Browns Lane.

Neighbors told they heard voices in their driveway between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday morning, police said.

The vehicle's owner told police they had both sets of keys and believed the suspect used a valet key in the Jeep's glove box to steal the vehicle.

The stolen Jeep had a modified exhaust system and Platoon Fitness graphics on the doors and roof, according to police.

But before this incident, police said an attempt to steal a different vehicle was made less than a mile away.

At about 4:57 a.m., a homeowner on the 500 block of Conestoga Road in the Villanova part of the township saw a black male rummaging through a Range Rover parked in the residence's driveway, police said.

The homeowner woke their spouse, which led them to find the suspect in a Mercedes Benz parked next to the Range Rover, police said.

The suspect attempted to reverse out of the driveway, but the homeowner jumped into the passenger seat and confronted the suspect verbally, police said.

The suspect put the vehicle in park and fled on foot, heading east on Conestoga Road, police said.

A K9 police unit tracked the suspect to the area of Conestoga Road and Route 320 but lost the suspect's scent, police said.
