Villanova Prof Finds 'Super Earth' With Astronomy Team: Report

Villanova astronomy and astrophysics professor Edward Guinan was among a team of astronomers who found a "super earth" planet recently.

VILLANOVA, PA – A "super earth" has been discovered in e stars and a Villanova University professor was among the team members who found it.

Professor of astronomy and astrophysics Edward Guinan and an international team of crack astronomers found the super earth, which they say is about seven light years away, according to KYW News Radio.

Not only is the planet incredibly far from our Earth, it's much, much larger. Thus, the "super" part of its name.

KYW reports the newly-found planet's mass is more than three times the size of Earth's mass.

Guinan told the outlet despite its distance from us, the super earth visible in the northern part of the night sky with binoculars.

Guinan holds a B.S. in physics from Villanova and Ph.D. in astronomy from University of Pennsylvania, 1970
