Villanova Student Raped On Campus By Rideshare Driver, Police Say: Reports
Authorities said the female student was raped last weekend after the driver followed her into a residence hall, reports said.
VILLANOVA, PA — Authorities are investigating after a Villanova University student reported she was raped by an Uber driver in a campus residence hall, according to multiple reports citing police and officials.
The university sent an alert to students letting them know of the report made by the female victim, NBC Philadelphia reported. Officials said the incident happened inside the Commons residence hall complex during the overnight hours of Sept. 13 and 14.
Action News reported that once the victim was dropped off, the driver followed her into the building and raped her.

Police have since identified the driver, who was banned from the university as the investigation continues, reports said. It's unclear if the driver was arrested or charged.
In a statement obtained by CBS Philadelphia, an Uber spokesperson confirmed knowledge of the incident.

Sexual assault is a devastating crime that has no place in our society. We are appalled by what's been described, and banned the driver as soon as this was reported to us. We will assist law enforcement however we can," the spokesperson said.
