Villanova's Hillard Drafted By The Detroit Pistons

The Wildcat standout will be headed from Radnor to the big show.

A familiar face around Radnor Township and throughout the Villanova University campus is heading to the National Basketball Association.

Shooting guard Darrun Hillard was picked by the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Draft Thursday night.

The 22-year-old Bethlehem native was taken with the 38th overall pick in the second round of the draft.

“(Hillard) is a quality athlete with an ability to move without the basketball,” his Villanova Athletics profile states. “Versatile enough to handle the basketball if needed. Has range to 3-point territory with a smooth lefthanded stroke.”

Hillard was a key leading piece on the 2014-2015 Villanova men’s team that received a one seed ranking in the NCAA’s March Madness Tournament.

The 6-6, 220 pound shooting guard’s 14.4 points per game throughout the year were not enough to carry Villanova through the tournament.

Although they were heavy favorites, they suffered heartbreak and lost to North Carolina State in the second round.

Hillard will try to help turn the Pistons around after they finished last in the Eastern Conference’s Central Division in 2015.
