Son Kills Mother In Wayne Murder-Suicide: Delco Medical Examiner

The Delaware County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the son killed his mother before taking his own life in a Wayne home.

WAYNE, PA – Radnor Township Police said the Delaware County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed the deaths of a man and woman at a Wayne residence were the result of a murder suicide and that the victims were a mother and son.

The ME's office said Devon Byrd, 23, and Alita Byrd, 50, were the two people killed in the murder-suicide.

Officials said Devon Byrd shot and killed his mother before taking his own life.

Authorities discovered the deaths after being called to a home on the 200 block of Highland Avenue the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 31 by a neighbor who said they had not seen anyone at the house in about a week.

When police entered the home, they found a man and woman dead, later identified as Devon and Alita Byrd, from gunshot wounds in the home's first floor.

Several firearms were found in the home, police said.

They may have been dead in the home for several days, police said.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
