Funeral Director Accused Of Stashing Bodies In Garage Has License Revoked

She was charged with "abuse of corpses" after neighbors found the source of a horrible smell in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The funeral director who is accused of stashing the bodies of three corpses in her garage has had her license revoked by the Pennsylvania Board of Funeral Directors.

Janet Powell-Dailey, 72, has also been charged with “abuse of corpses” and fined the maximum amount, $300,000, by the board for her offenses, according to multiple reports.

Neighbors found the bodies on August 25, 2015 after seeking out the source of a horrible smell in the garages of Powell Funeral Home in Philadelphia, CBS 3 reports. The garage was located on the 2600 block of W. Hagert Street.

One body was in a coffin and two more were in cardboard boxes, 6 ABC reports.

The bodies had been in there for a few weeks, according to NBC 10. One of the corpses was that of Leon Nelson, 89, of Bala Cynwyd. The other two were Albert Andrews and Sally Czarnecki.

This is not the first case of this kind in the northeast in recent months. In September, a funeral director in Boston was arrested for a similar incident.

Powell-Dailey is awaiting her hearing.

Powell Funeral Home is located on 2432 N 27th Street in Philadelphia.
