Manayunk's Mad River Closes After 11 Years Due To Coronavirus
The popular Main Street bar and restaurant has shuttered its doors after 11 years due to economic impacts of the coronavirus.

MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA — The coronavirus's economic impact is hitting many Philadelphians hard, and a staple on Main Street in Manayunk is among its most recent victims.
Mad River in Manayunk recently announced it is closing for good due to the virus's toll.
Jamie Powell, Mad River's manager, said on Facebook that the spot will close and stay closed, even after the virus has passed.

"There are so many rumors out there but the biggest truth of all is that Manayunk is just a different town anymore as far as nightlife goes," she said. "We decided as a squad it was just time to cash em in. No one should hang their head, a place like ours had no business making it ELEVEN YEARS. It’s wild and honestly impressive."
Powell said he hoped Mad River's announcement didn't start a wave of other eateries announcing their closure.

Some hope exists for bars and restaurants in take out and delivery options, as well as the temporary allowance to sell to go cocktails which awaits Gov. Tom Wolf's signature.
