Manayunk's St. Mary Of The Assumption Will No Longer Be A Worship Site
Funding seems to be the main issue. What will the building serve as next?

One of Manayunk’s Catholic churches will no longer serve as a worship site.
Saint Mary of the Assumption Church, located on 176 Conarroe Street in Manayunk, will now be relegated to “profane but not sordid use,” according to a press release from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
In this case, profane merely means that the building will now be used for secular purposes, or for not strictly religious purposes.

“The church is no longer needed by the parish and the parish lacks the funding necessary to maintain (it) without seriously impeding the ministry of the parish,” the archdiocese said.
The archdiocese estimated the annual cost of maintaining all properties on Saint Mary’s property as totaling $138,000. Some of the properties are in need of repair.

“The church building does not have any particular architectural, historical, or artistic significance,” officials said in their justification of the closure.
Officials added that the closing of the church would not affect the worship practices of parishioners due to the proximity of another church.
Saint Mary’s is located just a third of a mile, about a 7 minute walk, away from St. John the Baptist on 146 Rector Street.
