SEPTA Union Ratifies New Contract

The new two-year contract with SEPTA's Transport Workers Union Local 234 includes a 5 percent raise.

SEPTA’s largest union ratified a two-year contract on Friday.

The new two-year contract with Transport Workers Union Local 234 includes a 5 percent raise, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

TWU Local 234 represents more than 5,000 SEPTA bus drivers, subway and trolley operators and other transit workers. They had been working without a contract since this spring and a strike was threatened.

The last TWU strike, in November 2009, was six days, but a strike in 1998 lasted 40 days.

Regional Rail would not have been impacted by a TWU Local 234 strike.
