20 Graduate From Community BikeWorks at KidsPeace

earned their certificates today after mastering various elements of bicycle repair and safety.

The group logged 20 classroom hours since April to learn about how to properly maintain a bike. As a reward for completing the program, they all get to keep the bikes they repaired, as well as helmets. At today’s graduation, some of the participants spoke about how the course taught them so much more than what they expected.

“I’d recommend that you all would do this program, outside of here or here at KidsPeace,” said Dakota Solt. “I learned how to make my future successful by learning how to act in the community.”

Eddie Gonzalez-Fox said while the program is not necessarily therapeutic, he considers it a valuable asset to his treatment since it forced him to learn teamwork and the ability to get along with people different from himself.

Rob Scott, supervisor of recreational facilities for KidsPeace, who leads the program, said that’s actually part of the contract the students sign to participate. They agree to help each other in the process of fixing the bikes.

This is the second class to graduate from the program at KidsPeace.
