Like birds?

You might want to consider becoming a citizen scientist this winter forΒ Project FeederWatch, aΒ winter long survey of birds that visitΒ feedersΒ throughout North America.Β

The data helps scientists track movements of winter bird populations and long-term trendsβ€”where birds are and are not. Such data, for example, can help scientists determine when a bird population is at risk.

It costs $15 to participateΒ but you will be sent a research kit with instructions for participating. You provide the feeder and seed. Anyone interested in birds can participate.

The Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center in Northampton County is looking for volunteers to help with a count in February andΒ March.Β A training day will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Feb. 1. Β Contact Rick Wiltraut atΒ rwiltraut@pa.govΒ orΒ 610-746-2801, Ext 103.
