Embattled Salisbury High Football Coach Resigns

Head Football Coach Rob Sawicki has resigned just days after some team parents and booster club members complained to the school board that he demeaned players.  

After Salisbury Patch ran a Friday about the complaints, the controversy continued online with comments both for and against Sawicki. Here is the statement the school district released today announcing Sawicki's resignation:

"After four seasons as Salisbury's head varsity football coach, Rob Sawicki has decided to step down from his head coaching duties. Citing personal reasons, he presented his letter of resignation to school officials late Friday afternoon. Under Sawicki, the Falcons compiled a record of 5-36 during his four-years as head coach. He guided the team to the District XI Class 2A tournament in the 2009 season.

"We thank Rob for his tireless efforts and we wish him the best in his future endeavors," said Monica Deeb, Salisbury's director of student activities.

Sawicki joined the Salisbury football staff in 2004 and was an assistant coach to then head coach Mark Scisly. During the next four years, the Falcons won the 2006 District XI Class 2A Eastern Conference title and qualified for districts in 2007 for only the second time in school history.

Scisly left after the 2007 season, and Sawicki became the head coach in the spring of 2008."
