Salisbury Youth Basketball Camp Named for Bruce Uhl

Salisbury High basketball booster club seeks to honor the memory of Bruce Uhl, who volunteered for countless hours as a coach, program director and booster club president.

 

A youth basketball camp at has been renamed in honor of the late , who was a longtime youth  coach and former director of the Salisbury Youth Association basketball program.

Michelle Maron, president of the Salisbury High basketball booster club, said the club wanted to honor Uhl for the countless hours he spent volunteering as a coach, program director and booster. His widow, Melinda, approved of the decision, Maron said. Their son, Chris, played for Salisbury before graduating and son, Austin, currently plays for the high school.

“Bruce was such a force in Salisbury basketball,” Maron said. “He loved basketball and basketball loved Bruce.”

Uhl was president of the Salisbury Alumni Association when he died last June and was a former president of the basketball booster club. He had played basketball, football and baseball for Salisbury High.

The youth camp will run 1-4p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 at the high school under the direction of Jason Weaver, head varsity basketball coach. The camp is designed to teach fundamental skills to boys in grades 4-7 and costs $10 for the first player and $5 for each additional player from the same family. Players will receive T-Shirts and there will be awards for contest winners.

 The camp will be staffed by high school coaches and varsity players.
