• Welker honored with key, distinguished alumnus (newsandsentinel.com) — Shamokin honored native son Dr. Bill Welker this August with a key to the city and a proclamation declaring Aug. 17 "Billy Welker Day" for his lifelong contributions to education and wrestling. During the visit, Welker also returned to Shamokin High School, where he was named a Distinguished Alumnus, capping an emotional homecoming to the town where he grew up.
