An Uncertain Phuture

It’s been two years since my last post, so one might be surprised that a new one has finally arrived (if you noticed my absence…no hard feelings). Honestly, there was just no way amidst how bad Philadelphia sports are performing that I could have the most recent Google search of myself be a posting of the Eagles’ Championship hopes.

Two years ago, we were in the midst of a “Philly Phever.” The Eagles on paper looked exactly like Vince Young said they did, a dream team. The Phillies weren’t far removed from their World Series appearances and were very much still in the national conversation.

As for the Sixers, well they were relatively mediocre then, but in a respectable way. Let’s just say if the past and present Sixers played tomorrow, the past Sixers have about the same chance of winning as the Harlem Globetrotters do on any given night. Those Sixers even had a mascot!

I wasn’t going to mention the Flyers because I actually have spent more time watching the Philadelphia Soul over the last couple years, but the Flyers were in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010 and they missed the playoffs last year.

The point is, in the last two years Philadelphia has gone from being among national headlines to now solely on CSNPhilly.

But are things really that bad? On the rollercoaster that is sports, have we ridden for too long and ended up nauseous?

I’d like to say no, because I have hope, but hope is what got me into this position. Hope is what for years has been telling me that the Eagles will finally win a Super Bowl and why I always would think that the Phillies and Sixers were about to make a deep playoff run.

Maybe one day all of this will come true. Maybe Chip Kelly’s new offense will blitzkrieg the rest of the league and the Phillies have been playing poorly because the older players are saving their energy for a September run. It could even be a merry (Nerlens) Noel for all of us... one day.

Until then, I’m going to try to focus on the good times. You know 2004 wasn’t thaaaat long ago, and neither was 2008 or 2001.

For now, I’m looking ahead. Who knows were we’ll be in two more years.
