5 Tips for Reaching Your Fitness Goals

Here are five tips to help you reach your fitness goals.

Have you ever heard the expression "those who fail to plan, plan to fail?" We always seem to get things accomplished when we have a deadline. But when it comes to exercise, we just "want to get in better shape."

The problem is, when we don't get into better shape, we blame everything but our lack of goal setting.

We know goals keep us focused, and our exercise should be no different.

  1. Set short- and long-term goals. If your goal is to run a marathon but you've never run a mile, it is best to start small and build up gradually. Short term goal: Run a 5K. Long term goal: The marathon which is 26.2 miles!
  2. Be realistic. If the goals are impossible, you will set yourself up for failure.
  3. Do it because YOU want it rather than doing it because someone else wants you to.
  4. Write down your goals. Keep a Post-it on the fridge, a picture that reminds you of your goal, or keep in mind that pair of jeans you haven't worn in awhile.
  5. Enlist support. This could be a workout partner or even a personal trainer. A certified personal trainer will give you the support and guidance you need to get you on the road to that healthier lifestyle or that marathon!
