'Paws to the Rescue' Dog Walk on June 10

Lehigh Valley CART is holding dog walk to raise funds and awareness for Pet O2 Masks for local fire departments.

On Sunday, June 10, from noon to 3:30 p.m. at Cedar Creek Park near the Rose Garden in Allentown, the Lehigh Valley County Animal Response Team (LVCART) will hold a "Paws to the Rescue" dog walk and family fun day.

The goal is to raise funds to supply every fire department in Lehigh and Northampton counties with Pet O2 Masks.

Each year, 40,000 pets perish in fires nationwide, and 500,000 pets are affected by fires. The pet masks supplied in the kits allow oxygen to be given quickly to pets injured by smoke inhalation or by exposure to carbon monoxide.

LVCART has already presented some masks to various fire departments, including the Woodlawn and Cetronia departments in South Whitehall, but your help is needed to raise additional funds to furnish all of the fire companies in the area.  You can help by joining in the dog walk!

"Judgment" the Arson Dog will be there to meet with participants and onlookers.  There will be raffles to enter and baked goods to purchase for humans -- and pets.

Exhibitiors will include emergency responders, Valley Search and Rescue, as well as LVCART (of which I am a member). There will be something for everyone and much more.

I encourage you to join us on June 10 to support this life-saving fund-raising event at a cost of $10 per person or $25 per family. The address of the dog walk  is the 3000 block of Parkway Boulevard, Allentown. The "walking" starts at 2 p.m.

Attached is a flyer and registration form, if you would like to pre-register.

You may be asking, what is LVCART? In 2004, Pennsylvania adopted the animal response team concept to address animal-related disaster response needs. The Lehigh Valley County Animal Response Team (LVCART) was created through a private-public partnership to serve as a unified network of organizations, businesses, government agencies, and individuals that supports preparation and response to emergencies that affect animals.

If you would like more information on LVCART, go to www.lvcart.org. We are always looking for volunteers, and you can come to the dog walk to meet us and learn more about who we are and what we do.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, June 10, rain or shine.  If you cannot make the event, you can still donate to help our cause.
