Car Thefts Prompt Police to Step Up Patrols

Items stolen include music devices, GPS systems.

South Whitehall police have stepped up patrols in a portion of the township, east of Cedar Crest Boulevard, after a series of car thefts and a burglary at a convenience store.

Sgt. Thomas Gersbach said the thefts started about a month ago, though there have not been any reported thefts in the past few days.

Residents in the area of Congress and Grover streets, where many people park on the street rather than in garages, reported the thefts. Items taken include GPS systems, music devices, laptops and loose change.

He said car thefts are prevalent this time of year, when people tend to be in a hurry and leave items behind in their cars.
