Cory T. Walker Reaches Rank of Eagle Scout

For his Eagle project, Cory T. Walker built a new deck on the entrance to Granitz Lodge at Camp Serranova near Seisholtzville.

 

Cory T. Walker, a member of Boy Scout Troop 150, which is chartered by in Orefield, has received the rank of Eagle Scout. 

Walker, 17, is the son of Sue and Scott Walker of Orefield. He is a senior at .

For his project, Walker built a new deck on the entrance to Granitz Lodge at Camp Serranova near Seisholtzville, made improvements to the entrance pathway and built a firewood storage box for the lodge. 

Walker's Court of Honor was held on July 14, where he received his Eagle Scout Award.

Walker began scouting as a Tiger Cub in 2001. He earned the Arrow of Light Award and Parvuli Dei religious award as a Cub Scout. He has earned 29 merit badges and the Ad Altare Dei religious award as a member of Troop 150. He has also earned a Bronze Palm.

In 2009, he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, an honorary society for Scouts and in 2011 earned Brotherhood. 

In 2010, Walker went to Florida for a high adventure at Seabase. In 2011, he participated in a 100-plus mile backpacking trek at Philmont Scout Reservation. 

He has held several leadership positions including Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Historian, Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, and Den Chief. He is a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster for his Troop.

Walker is a Cross Country runner for Parkland High School. Track runner events include 1 mile and 2 mile. He has been running cross country since seventh grade. He is a ski patrol candidate at Blue Mountain Ski Resort for the 2012-2013 season.

In addition to scouting, running and skiing, he enjoys camping, biking, hiking, fishing and golf. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and works part-time at Schaefer Industries.

He plans to study elementary education after graduation, with a minor in coaching.

His brother Christopher is also an Eagle Scout.
