Voter turnout was steady Tuesday morning and early afternoon at the Parkway Manor Elementary School in South Whitehall.Â
By 12:50 p.m., 247 people had cast ballots, almost as many as polls workers had predicted for the full day, said judge of elections Michelle Jarrouj-Weaver.
One of the big draws in the Upper Macungie, South Whitehall and North Whitehall areas appeared to be the Parkland Community Library referendum, which was asking voters to approve a higher tax to build a new $13 million community library in Upper Macungie.
Voters are also casting ballots for a Lehigh County executive and county commissioner, which are contested seats. Voters also are casting ballots for township commissioner, District Judge and Parkland School Board, but those races are not contested.Â
Outside the polling place, Benjamin Long, a Republican, promoted Democrat Tom Muller's campaign for county Executive. Muller is battling Republican Scott Ott for the county's top job.
Polls are open until 8 p.m.
