The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is providing portable radios worth more than $16,000 to Greenawalds Fire Company.
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation awarded portable radios worth more than $16,000 to the of South Whitehall.
A ceremony was scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 6, at Firehouse Subs, 1824 Airport Road, Hanover Township (Lehigh County).

The foundation was presenting 12 Motorola XTS 1500 portable radios, which were to replace the department's outdated radios, according to a prepared release. The radios will be compatible with the region's new system.
Since 2005, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has donated more than $48,100 to public safety entities in Pennsylvania.

"We are truly serving subs and saving lives," Michael Wideman, franchisee of the Allentown Firehouse Subs restaurant, said in the statement. "Our Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation's support of our local heroes impacts us all."
Each Firehouse Subs restaurant recycles leftover, five-gallon pickle buckets and sells them to guests for $2. Donation canisters on register counters explain the non-profit's mission and collect spare change. Also, a round-up program allows guests to "round up" their bill to the nearest dollar.
Firehouse Subs was founded in Jacksonville, Fla., by former firefighting brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen.
