Lehigh County Director of Emergency Services to Retire

Lehigh County Director of Emergency Services Thomas H. Nervine announced Monday he is retiring from county service. 

Nervine has led Lehigh County’s Emergency  Management operation since 2005. He was at the helm during Hurricane Sandy, coordinating with municipalities and agencies to figure out such things as, "what are the needs going to be?"

“It’s been a pleasure to serve Lehigh County’s residents as Director of Emergency Services,” said Nervine in a prepared release.  “I have been fortunate to serve in different capacities with the state and county over the past 30 years and now look forward to new challenges.”

Nervine has been director of Lehigh County’s Emergency Management Team since 2005.  Previously he served as Regional Operations Director for the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA.)  Prior to that, Nervine was the Fire Marshall at Allentown State Hospital and served as mayor of Catasauqua from 1986-1990.

“Tom Nervine has been an asset to Lehigh County in his service as Director of Emergency Services,” said Lehigh County Executive Bill Hansell.  “He leads a team of very talented county employees, and we wish him well as he moves on to new things.”

Nervine will step down in March.

Lehigh County plans to begin the recruitment process to find Nervine’s replacement over the next few weeks.
