Police: Man Punched Woman, Drove her Jaguar into Wall

Gary Sampson of Allentown has been charged by South Whitehall police with simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A 48-year-old Allentown man has been charged with allegedly punching a woman in the face while he drove her black Jaguar on Mauch Chunk Road in South Whitehall, then allegedly driving her car repeatedly into a wall.

Gary Sampson, 1805 Allen St., Allentown, has been charged by South Whitehall police with simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief. 

A preliminary hearing is set for Monday, May 7, at 2:45 p.m.

According to the arrest affidavit:

* Police were called to Mauch Chunk Road in South Whitehall at 11:42 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, by Lehigh County radio.

* Wendy E. Greenberg told police then that two hours earlier Sampson had been driving her car south on Mauch Chunk Road when he got mad "over a situation" and punched her in the face as she sat in the passenger seat. 

* She said he drove her car into a wall until it was no longer operable.

* The car had to be towed from Mauch Chunk Road, south of Fairmont Avenue.

* A police officer saw a cut on Greenberg's chin, and Greenberg complained of pain to her nose.

District Judge Michael Faulkner set bail at $40,000 straight.
