South Whitehall's public works director, who died Thursday morning at home, was "deeply connected to the earth."

In 1974 Jim was hired as a laborer by South Whitehall Township. In the ensuing years he took advantage of opportunities for training, attended workshops and completed college level courses, making it possible for him to advance into positions of increasing responsibility. He was named Director of Public Works in 1998 and held that position for the last 13 years.

Jim was deeply connected to the earth. He left his mark on the land by carefully developing his property from a field of shale into pastures, fields and gardens worthy of certification by the National Wildlife Federation as a “Backyard Habitat,” a sustaining environment for all forms of wildlife.
