The Shippensburg University Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers will present a concert of sacred and secular music in the sanctuary of Jordan United Church of Christ, 1837 Church Road, Allentown, PA 18104, on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 7:00 pm under the direction of Dr. Blaine Shover, professor of music at Shippensburg University. The Concert Choir will perform the music of Cesar Franck, Johannes Brahms, and the "Gloria" from Haydn's Mass in Time of War as well as a medley of songs from Les Misérables. The Madrigal Singers, an ensemble of 19 singers who perform at university events and tour throughout Pennsylvania and nearby states as well as Austria, Germany, France, and England, will perform motets by William Byrd, Giovanni Croce, and Giancarlo Aquilanti as well as arrangements of traditional spirituals. There is no admission fee, but
a free will offering will be taken during the concert to support the
church's upcoming mission trip to Kakata, Liberia in conjunction with
Wipe the Tears, a 501 (c) (3) organization founded by Jordan members
Robert and
Teelah Momolu along with the church's missions committee. Jordan
UCC member Curtis Rabe is a member of the choir and will be a featured soloist. There will be a potluck dinner prior to the concert in the church's social hall.
