
Expect sunny skies this weekend, with a high near 72 on Friday and a high near 78 on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Here's what's going on in and around South Whitehall Township this weekend:
- The Parkland High School football team, coming off an opening week victory against Delaware Valley, will open its Lehigh Valley Conference schedule with an important matchup at Easton Area High School. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday. The game can be seen live on Service Electric Cable Television's TV2.
- The Parkland Community Library, 4422 Walbert Ave., South Whitehall, will host a Basic Computer Class at 9 a.m., a Practice SAT test for high school students from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a Daytime Book Club at 2 p.m. Call the library at 610-398-1361 for information..
- The Parkland High School girls soccer team will host Northampton at 10 a.m. Saturday and the girls tennis team will host Southern Lehigh, also at 10 a.m. Saturday.
- Dorney Park in South Whitehall is hosting Guest Appreciation Day on Sunday. All thrill rides available for $20. (The park is closed Saturday for a private event.)
- At Grumpy's Bar-B-Que Roadhouse, join in First Fridays with Jake Kaligis and the New Constitution on Friday night, then listen to the Lou Franco Project on Saturday night. On Sunday, band perform in the afternoon for the Gypsie Sportsman M.C. 2013 Bike Raffle
- Join naturalists from the Wildlands Conservancy for an early morning bird hike in nearby Schnecksville, an educational conversation and a light breakfast. The "Birds & Bagels" walk/talk takes off from the Trexler Environmental Center, 4935 Orchard Road, Schnecksville, at 8 a.m. Saturday. - Hike Hawk Mountain with the Wildlands Conservancy, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday in Berks County. The walk will go from the sanctuary entrance onto the Lookout Trail, then to the South Lookout and the Bald Lookout.
- Celebrate veggies at the Bethlehem VegFest from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Hosted by the Downtown Bethlehem Association on the city's SouthSide Bethlehem Greenway, the fest features food, music and more.
- The Clover Hill Winery and Vynecrest Winery, both in Breinigsville, are open all weekend and will offer complimentary tastings.
- The Lehigh Valley Zoo in Schneckville is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- The Allentown Art Museum is free Sunday. Hours are noon to 4 p.m.
- The Valley Preferred Cycling Center, at 1151 Mosser Road, Upper Macungie, has several practice sessions available Saturday, including one under the lights. Click here for more information.
