1. 'Not something we want.' Ferguson Township weighs action against Flock cameras (centredaily.com) — Ferguson Township supervisors are drafting a resolution signaling they won't accept proposals for Flock or similar license plate reader cameras, and hope to win support from State College Borough and neighboring townships. Residents and a former federal intelligence analyst packed the meeting to warn about privacy, oversight, and a potential surveillance state, while officials also discussed whether future lawsuits could block cameras in the township.
2. Boil notice issued for over 400 water customers in Ferguson Township (wtaj.com) — Residents served by Rock Spring Water Company in nearby Ferguson Township, including many who rely on State College for daily needs, are under a boil water advisory after a loss of pressure raised contamination concerns. About 480 customers must boil water for at least one minute for all uses, while bottled and non-potable water are available at Ag Progress Days in Pennsylvania Furnace.
3. State College celebrates 2nd Annual Latin Art Exhibition (statecollege.com) — State College residents can explore the 2nd Annual Latin Art Exhibition at the borough municipal building on South Allen Street, running now through October 16. The show highlights Latino workers' contributions across Central Pennsylvania through paintings, photography, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, and children's artwork celebrating their parents' daily labor and legacy.
4. Maftir Yonah for Under $500? It's Possible (collive.com) — A Maftir Yonah honor is currently being auctioned for $180 in State College, offering locals a way to support the Chabad community while securing a meaningful Yom Kippur kibbud. The KIBID platform connects bidders worldwide with shluchim who need help covering heavy Tishrei expenses, turning personal spiritual intentions into practical support for communities like Penn State's Jewish students.
5. State College soccer celebrates 50th anniversary of state title win (statecollege.com) — Former State College High School soccer players and coaches reunited locally to mark 50 years since their 1976 state championship season. They gathered at a Boalsburg hotel, were honored at a current Little Lions game, and spent the weekend reminiscing about the program's rise from restart to title-winning powerhouse.
