19th Century Baseball In Chester County Rescheduled For August

Fear not: the old ball game - as it once was - is returning, after it was cancelled due to rain.

Malvern, PA -19th century baseball is coming to Chester County.

Historic Sugartown will welcome the Brandywine Base Ball Club of West Chester for an entertaining evening of baseball fun, the Chester County Historical Society announced.

The event, which had been scheduled for June 16, will now take place on August 12 at 7 p.m.

Come out and hear the players talk about the history of their club and baseball in America.

Watch the team demonstrate an early version of the game called Townball, then have a chance to join in.

Enjoy a cold brew from West Chester’s Levante Brewing Company, as well as iced tea, lemonade, popcorn, and soft pretzels from Philly Pretzel Factory of Lionville.

Stroll around the grounds and visit the William Garrett House, which dates to 1805, to view a temporary exhibit of vintage baseball ephemera on loan from the Chester County Historical Society.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for a picnic dinner.
