2016 Violent, Property Crime Rates In Tredyffrin-Easttown: FBI

TREDYFFRIN-EASTTOWN, PA – The FBI released its 2016 crime reprot recently, and we have details on crime rates in both Tredyffrin and Easttown townships.

The information comes from the FBI’s annual report Crime in the United States. The publication is a statistical compilation of offense, arrest, and police employee data reported by law enforcement agencies voluntarily participating in the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program, according to the FBI.

According to FBI data, violent crimes went up from 2015 in 2016 in Tredyffrin. Data shows 22 incidents of violent crime in the township were recorded in 2016, while 2015 had just 16 incidents.

Violent crimes include robbery, aggravated assault, rape, murder/non-negligent manslaughter.

In 2016, Tredyffrin saw one murder/non-negligent manslaughter incident, two rapes, six robberies, and 13 aggravated assaults.

Regarding property crime, the township saw a drop from 2015 to 2016. FBI data shows 2015 had 246 property crimes, while 2016 saw a drop with 220 reported property crimes.

These crimes include theft/larceny, burglary, arson, and motor vehicle theft.

Tredyffrin saw 25 burglaries, 185 thefts/larcenies, 10 vehicle thefts, and one arson case in 2016.

The theft/larceny incidents saw the biggest change from 2015 to 2016, data shows 213 incidents in 2015.


Over in Easttown, violent crimes dropped significantly, with just one reported in 2016 opposed to the 20 reported in 2015, data shows.

The sole violent crime reported in Easttown was an aggravated assault.

Property crimes, however, went up from just 61 in 2015 to 98 in 2016.

There were 84 theft/larcenies, 9 burglaries, five vehicle thefts, and no arson cases in 2016.

Nationally, the FBI said the 2016 statistics showed an increase in the estimated number of violent crimes, with a 4.1 percent rise when compared with 2015 data. Nationally, property crimes dropped 1.3 percent.

The 2016 statistics show the estimated rate of violent crime was 386.3 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants nationally, and the estimated rate of property crime was 2,450.7 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants. The violent crime rate rose 3.4 percent compared with the 2015 rate, and the property crime rate declined 2.0 percent.

The UCR Program report for 2016 included information from 16,782 agencies across the country, out of 18,481 city, county, university and college, state, tribal, and federal agencies eligible to participate,
the FBI said.
