$205M Budget, 5% Tax Rate Increase Approved For Tredyffrin-Easttown Schools

Key cost drivers include special education, debt service and construction of Bear Hill Elementary, officials said.

BERWYN, PA — The Tredyffrin/Easttown School District's 2026-27 budget comes with a 5 percent property tax rate increase.

The $204.8 million budget, approved by the School Board last week, will have a tax rate of 31.1364 mills — an increase of 1.4797 mills from the current rate. This will increase taxes by about $388 annually for the average-assessed home in Tredyffrin and Easttown.

Salaries and benefits consistently make up most of the budget. But other areas of cost drivers include construction of Bear Hill Elementary School, mandated retirement contributions, and special education, according to district officials. Debt service also increased by $523,000.

Cost increases for special-education needs have outpaced state aid for that purpose, the district said in a budget summary.

"This year, the District has continued to experience growth in the number of students with significant and complex needs, resulting in increased demand for specialized programs and adult support," the district said. "The most significant impact on expenditures has been the expanded use of contracted services, which are required to meet students’ needs when in-District staffing alone is not sufficient."

Bear Hill Elementary is scheduled to open for the 2027-28 school year, when TESD says it will launch district-wide full-day kindergarten.
