'Extensive' Mouse Droppings: 2 Main Line Restaurants Ordered To Close By Health Inspectors

The restaurants must fix their respective health-code violations before they can reopen, according to public records.

| Updated

BERWYN, PA — Health inspectors ordered two Berwyn restaurants to temporarily close after finding "extensive" rodent droppings and other violations at both facilities.

La Cabra Brewing and Tiramisu Ristorante were ordered to close after routine inspections from the Chester County Health Department. (See the inspection reports below).

The Lancaster Avenue restaurants are separate businesses, and their closures do not relate to one another.

La Cabra

On Wednesday, the inspector observed "mouse like droppings" in La Cabra's Berwyn location (642 Lancaster Ave.), including in the kitchen, main-floor dining room and upstairs bar area. Some of the droppings were located on food-contact surfaces of equipment in the basement.

During inspection, a mouse ran from behind the upstairs bar into an opening in the wall, the report says. There were also several areas with mold-like debris, plus decaying insects on glue traps in the basement that needed to be removed.

Overall, 25 violations were found.

La Cabra has passed re-inspection and will reopen at noon Tuesday, according to a representative of the business.

The brewer's Bryn Mawr location is not impacted.

Tiramisu Ristorante

An inspector found 25 violations at Tiramisu, including mouse-like droppings and evidence of rodent activity in the kitchen and bar areas. The restaurant didn't have a current pest control report on file, the inspector says.

Employees were seen not wearing hair nets or hats, and the dishwasher had built up filth and food residue that wasn't cleaned before use.

In 2023, the restaurant owner told inspectors that a new floor was being installed in the coming months, according to the inspector. But last week, the kitchen floor was "heavily damaged," with missing tiles and uneven areas throughout.

Patch called the restaurant. A person who took the call declined to comment on the matter and hung up the phone.

Tiramisu, which serves Roman Jewish cuisine, is located at 720 Lancaster Ave.
