Berwyn Fire And EMS, Tredyffrin Police Honored

Police, fire, and EMS crews earned recognition for their life-saving actions during a September 2016 incident.

BERWYN , PA – Members of the Berwyn Fire Company and Tredyffrin Township Police Department earned recognition from Chester County officials recently for their live-saving actions during a Sept. 22 incident.

On June 21, the Chester County Heroes Breakfast at the Desmond Hotel honored county responders for their actions in 2016.

The Berwyn Fire Company and the Tredyffrin Township Police Department were recognized in the Medical Hero category for their efforts in saving the life of a local teenager on Sept. 22.

In that incident, the victim was struck by a vehicle in their driveway and then become pinned underneath the vehicle before suffering a cardiac arrest, the fire company said.

Fire Capt. Evan Brazunas, EMS Capt. Michael Baskin, Advanced Life Support Coordinator Christopher Bickings, EMS Lt. Carl Weisbecker, EMS Lt. Scott Kramer, along with Tredyffrin Police Sgt. Brian Hughes, Cpl. Tyler Moyer, and Ofc. Neil Jackson were all recognized for their key roles during the incident.

"This incident highlights the value of the strong teamwork that exists between the Berwyn Fire Company and the Tredyffrin Township Police Department," the fire company said. "It also underscores the importance of Advanced Life Support (Paramedic) care in the chain of survival in our community."

The event was hosted by the American Red Cross and recognizes local heroes for their selflessness and courage.

"Thank you to the Tri-County Red Cross for coordinating this special event, along with the table sponsorship of Belfor USA," the fire company said. "It was also great to see many of our friends from the Chester County Department of Emergency Services and the Devon Horse Show in attendance to support us. The BFC team sends its continued best wishes to John and the entire Deenis Family."
