Berwyn's Congregation Or Shalom Hosting Open House Sept 15

BERWYN, PA — Congregation Or Shalom in Berwyn is hosting an open house and is inviting the public to see the facility and meet the new rabbi.

The congregation is hosting an open house at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Attendees will meet Rabbi Kami Knapp and Education Director Larisa Averbakh at the event, which will feature a light lunch.

Registration for Or Shalom’s religious school is now open for children entering Kindergarten through seventh grade.

Kindergarten through second students have classes on Sunday mornings while older students meet twice weekly on Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons.

Congregation Or Shalom is located at 835 Darby Paoli Road in Berwyn.

Membership is required for children to attend the synagogue school but there is no tuition.

Singles, couples and families are invited to tour the synagogue and school and talk to current members.

The synagogue offers traditional High Holiday services; Friday night and Saturday morning worship; a Hebrew school; year-round adult education plus Sisterhood and Men’s Club.

The Men’s Club will host a lecture on Friday, Nov. 1 at 8:15 p.m. after Friday night services.

Dr. Itzhak Brook, a Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine, will discuss his book, In The Sands of Sinai: A Physician’s Account of the Yom Kippur War. Brook’s presentation will include a description of the historical background of the Yom Kippur War and its effects on the Israeli society, as well as his own personal experiences and challenges as a battalion physician in the Sinai.
