Cosby, himself a Temple alum, has been on the Board of Trustees for more than 32 years, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Multiple women in recent weeks have accused the comedian of sexual assault; CNN says there are at least 15 accusers, while the Inquirer puts the number at more than 20. One of Cosby’s accusers worked at Temple, CNN said.

Cosby, 77, through his attorney has repeatedly denied the claims. However, CNN says that Cosby in 2004 settled a civil suit with one of his accusers.

Temple recently was presented with a 1,000-signature petition demanding Cosby leave the board, the Inquirer said.

“The Board of Trustees accepts Dr. Cosby’s resignation from the board and thanks him for his service to the university,” the university said in a statement.
