Conestoga High School Planning Traditional Graduation For July 21

If the school cannot hold a traditional commencement ceremony, there are several contingency plans in place to still host a ceremony.

BERWYN, PA — With students, parents, teachers, and other wondering how school district will handle the class of 2020's graduation, Tredyffrin/Easttown School District said it is planning to hold a traditional commencement.

Conestoga High School Principal Dr. Amy Meisinger recently laid out the plans for the commencement of Conestoga's Class of 2020.

According to Meisinger, a traditional commencement ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21 on Teamer Field at Conestoga High School.

This traditional ceremony will be held as long as state and local regulations allow.

However, if officials do not permit such a ceremony, a modified ceremony in the order listed below:

  • Social Distancing Commencement on Teamer Field - Students and guests would be seated six feet apart. If necessary, guests may be limited and protocols may need to be established to comply with state or local restrictions. The ceremony would be broadcast on TETV and livestreamed.
  • Social Distancing Commencement on Teamer Field with Students Only - Students would be seated six feet apart. The ceremony would be broadcast on TETV and livestreamed.
  • Individual Graduation Ceremonies on Teamer Field - Each student would be assigned a time for an individual ceremony on Teamer Field with guests as permissible. Each ceremony will be videotaped and produced into a full graduation program to be shared with families and broadcast on a later date.

The final details will depend on state guidelines in place at the time.

These plans were created with input from seniors, seniors' parents and staff members.

"A decision regarding which option we will pursue will be made by Wednesday, July 1 in order to finalize plans with vendors, identify equipment needs and allow time for our families to make necessary arrangements," the district said.

In addition to the commencement ceremony this summer, Conestoga is planning to host a reception for the Class of 2020 during Thanksgiving break this November.
