Conestoga Pioneers Day of Service Coatesville VA Medical Center
Donations of new socks, tee-shirts and underwear are welcomed!!
CONESTOGA PIONEERS FOOTBALL ANNUAL DAY OF SERVICE
The Conestoga High School Pioneers Football team and their coaches will be performing a day of service at the Coatesville Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center on Saturday, October 20th. This will be the third year in a row that Pioneers spend a day cleaning up and beautifying the grounds of Coatesville VA Medical Center in preparation for the VA Medical Center’s Veterans Day events. It is a day well spent, with the Pioneers helping the veterans who dedicated themselves to serving to our country.
The Gridiron Club and the Pioneers Football team will also be donating packages of new socks, undershirts, and underwear to the veterans at the VA Medical Center. For the past two years each member of the football team has been asked to donate at least one package of new undergarments, a request that individual players often exceeded. These donations are made in support David’s Drive 831 (DD831). DD831 is a local non-profit 501 (c) (3) public charity committed to improving the quality of life for hospitalized and homeless veterans in need in our community. DD831 was created in memory of David Turner Jr., a devoted volunteer at the VA Medical Center who died suddenly at the age of 20 of a suspected heart arrhythmia. David had a tremendous respect for the veterans with whom he had spent many volunteer hours. David had a vision to provide essentials, such as undergarments and socks to the veterans, many of whom were homeless; were in early recovery and who came to the hospital without these basic items of clothing.
